هَلْ سَنَبْقَى فِي هَذَا الغَارِ حَتَّى نَمُوت؟

أَغِيثُونَا!

Allah has decreed this trial upon us, and He alone is able to get us out of it.

لَقَدْ قَدَّرَ اللهُ عَلَيْنَا هَذَا الِابْتِلَاء، وَهُوَ وَحْدَهُ القَادِرُ عَلَى أَنْ يُخْرِجَنَا مِنْه.

Nothing will save us from this rock unless we pray to Allah by mentioning our good deeds.

لَنْ يُنَجِّيَنَا مِنْ هَذِهِ الصَّخْرَةِ إِلَّا أَنْ نَدْعُوَ اللهَ بِصَالِحِ أَعْمَالِنَا.

Oh Lord, You know that I had elderly parents and I was dutiful to them,

يَا رَبّ، إِنَّكَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّ لِي أَبَوَيْنِ وَأَنِّي بَارٌّ بِهِمَا،

and I would never eat or feed my children until I gave them their milk every day.

وَأَنِّي كُنْتُ لا آكُلُ وَلا أُطْعِمُ أَوْلَادِي حَتَّى أَسْقِيَهُمَا حَلِيبَهُمَا كُلَّ يَوْم.

And one day I was busy pruning trees in my field,

وَأَنِّي ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ قَدِ انْشَغَلْتُ فِي تَقْلِيمِ الأَشْجَارِ فِي حَقْلِي،

so I returned to my parents late and found them asleep without drinking milk as usual.

فَعُدْتُ إِلَى أَبَوَيَّ مُتَأَخِّرًا، فَوَجَدْتُهُمَا نَائِمَيْنِ دُونَ أَنْ يَشْرَبَا الحَلِيبَ كَعَادَتِهِمَا.

So I felt deeply saddened and guilty, and I felt shy to wake them up from their sleep.

فَحَزِنْتُ بِشِدَّةٍ وَشَعَرْتُ بِذَنْبٍ شَدِيد، وَاسْتَحْيَيْتُ أَنْ أُوقِظَهُمَا مِنْ نَوْمِهِمَا.

And I refused to drink from it or give it to my young children until my parents woke up and drank first.

وَرَفَضْتُ أَنْ أَشْرَبَ مِنْهُ أَوْ أَنْ أَسْقِيَ أَوْلَادِي الصِّغَار، حَتَّى يَسْتَيْقِظَ أَبَوَايَ فَيَشْرَبَا أَوَّلًا.

So I waited until morning, and my parents woke up, drank the milk, and accepted my apology,

فَانْتَظَرْتُ حَتَّى الصَّبَاح، فَاسْتَيْقَظَ أَبَوَايَ بِالفِعْل، فَشَرِبَا الحَلِيب، وَتَقَبَّلَا عُذْرِي،

then my children drank, and then my wife and I drank.

ثُمَّ شَرِبَ أَوْلَادِي، ثُمَّ شَرِبْتُ أَنَا وَزَوْجَتِي.

O Allah, if You know that I did that purely for Your sake and seeking Your pleasure,

اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّنِي قَدْ فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ خَالِصًا لِوَجْهِكَ تَعَالَى وَابْتِغَاءً لِمَرْضَاتِك،

then move the boulder and relieve us from what we are in.

فَحَرِّكِ الصَّخْرَةَ وَفَرِّجْ عَنَّا مَا نَحْنُ فِيه.

Look, the boulder has moved!

هَا هِيَ الصَّخْرَةُ قَدْ تَحَرَّكَتْ!

Allah is Greater!

اللهُ أَكْبَر!

Didn't I tell you that nothing will save us from this trial except our good deeds?

أَلَمْ أَقُلْ لَكُمْ لَنْ يُنَجِّيَنَا مِنْ هَذَا الِابْتِلَاءِ سِوَى أَعْمَالِنَا الصَّالِحَة؟
